NECPA Helps Relief Effort in the Philippines

Over the last few years, members of NECPA have been recycling waste acrylic awning fabric by making it into shelter tarps to be deployed when disaster strikes. The Philippine typhoon is just such a disaster. The tarps, which will provide much needed shelter to displaced Filipinos, are being sent by Americares (, based in Stamford, Connecticut, and by the Filipino American Charitable Trust ( NECPA has also made a $500 cash donation to the latter organization.

Futureguard has sent more than 8,000 pounds of cut-off acrylic waste fabric to Awning Cleaning Industries, which is based in New Haven, Connecticut. Awning Cleaning handles the collection, processing, and tarp fabrication. In total, over 15,000 pounds of waste fabric have been recycled or repurposed by NECPA members.

If you would like to get involved, please bring your cut-off waste fabric to the NECPA EXPO in January, or contact Scott Massey at Awning Cleaning ( if you would like to make and contribute tarps yourself.

Please thank our Sponsors with your support!

AmeriCares expressed appreciation to two NECPA members, Awning Cleaning Industries and Futureguard, for their donation of disaster relief tarp shelters fabricated from acrylic awning fabric. NECPA continues to encourage other manufacturers to save fabric and make tarps for this worthwhile cause. In addition, fabricators and manufacturers are invited to contact Scott Massey at Awning Cleaning (203-397-7400) to find out more about recycling old as well as new fabric.
